On BMW GT1 board diagnostic scanners diagnose and report problems with the vehicle to the driver
or the vehicle technician. OBD is an automotive term for vehicles
self-scanning and reporting capability. The OBD System informs the driver
or the repair man about the condition of the various vehicle systems
and sub –systems. The OBD system was first introduced in 1980s. But it
was in the form of on board vehicle computers only. But gradually, with
advancement in technology, BMW GT1 the amount of information the OBD system
provides and processes has increased.
Earlier, if a
problem was detected, the OBD would only illuminate a malfunctioning
indicator light, also known as MIL. But MIL could not indicate where the
problem was nor could it detect the nature of the problem. Now the OBD
implementations BMW GT1 and scan tools use standardized DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes) to diagnose and fix the problem or reprogram the vehicle control modules in the vehicle.
