Functions of Ford VCM IDS

The Integrated Diagnostic Software (IDS) is the factory Ford Motor Company vehicle diagnostic instrument. The IDS is a flexible diagnostic tool or scan device or a programmer that uses standard computing and works with Ford's VCM, VCM II and VMM elm327 devices. In lay man terms, the software behind the system is the IDS, while the VCM, VCM II and VMM devices help interpret the information processed by the IDS. The system and devices together can let you self test your car's engine, chassis and body. It provides all link based functionality which includes service functions, diagnostic routines, self test, data logger, module configuration and programming and security on Ford family products.
The IDS software requires a license which includes time based access to the software and its updates along with the calibration and computation of files. Before 2012, the ids software and calibration files were available on DVD.
